N+E Gut Healing Animal Based Smoothie

She is small but mighty! I will be honest, I don’t often do smoothies for breakfast. I find it never feels me up like chewing food does. However, when I want one, I want it packed with nourishing ingredients that will make me and my gut feel good.

This might shock you, but I am not a fan of adding a bunch of veggies to my smoothie. Many of the typical ones like; spinach, cauliflower, kale and the like, have goitrogens and oxalates. In their raw form, these can be very disruptive to your thyroid gland and your kidneys because they block nutrient absorption. On the flip side, animal based smoothies can be incredibly healing to the thyroid and the gut, because of the nutrition they offer that is very gut restorative packed with nourishing vitamins and minerals.

The ingredients broken-down:

Protein Powder - Personally, I only like an animal based protein. Either a whey or one made of animal bones. Most other protein powders have questionable ingredients. Animal based proteins are better absorbed by the body and easier on your gut.

I like Equip and Mt Capra

Coconut Milk - this is one of the best sources of a good saturated fat. If you’ve been around here a while, you know I think good saturated fat is one of the most nourishing things we can give our bodies. It is a source of MTC (Medium Chain Triglycerides) these are very easily digested and great for energy and brain health and can help you burn fat more efficiently.

Coconut milk is also very nourishing to the gut lining because of it’s electrolytes and has been shown to be helpful with issues with IBS

Aloe Juice - is very calming to the gut lining and contains trace minerals and vitamins that help nourish the gut. This is my favorite brand - Georges

Colostrum - helps to heal and seal the gut lining. It contains lactoferrin that helps to reduce inflammatory markers in the gut. Lactorerrin also acts a prebiotic in the gut and feeds the good gut bacteria. This is my favorite brand

Bee Pollen - Packed with vitamins like, A, D, E, C and B’s, it is a powerful antioxidant that supports immune function, liver, and hormonal process. All these work in conjunction with the gut, so I like to add a sprinkle in. Note, Bee pollen is very powerful , so all you need is 1/4 tsp a day.

Turmeric + Ginger - for anti inflammatory benefits. Always add a pinch of pepper when using turmeric to boost its ability to work in the body.
